Physical TherapyPhysical Therapy is a great option for exercise science majors. Although you do not necessarily need an exercise science degree to be admitted into PT school, it is helpful to already have a background in human anatomy and function, as well as meeting all the requirements of the 'hard' sciences that PT school requires. A more detailed list of the prerequisites can be found here.
So what do physical therapist do? Primarily, they help injured or ill people improve their movement and manage their pain. These therapists are often an important part of rehabilitation and treatment of patients with chronic conditions or injuries. They also teach patients how to prevent or manage their condition so that they will achieve long-term health benefits. PTs examine each individual and develop a plan, using treatment techniques to promote the ability to move, reduce pain, restore function, and prevent disability. In addition, PTs work with individuals to prevent the loss of mobility before it occurs by developing fitness- and wellness-oriented programs for healthier and more active lifestyles. |
